Therapeutic Thai Oil Massage — A Journey of Healing, Tradition, and Tropical Bliss
A Natural Approach to Beauty and Wellness
When I think of Thai oil massage, I’m instantly transported back to my study abroad in Thailand — a place where the air is warm, the people are kind, and the scents of herbs and flowers linger in every spa.
Eager to learn and truly experience the massage traditions of Thailand, I made it my mission to receive as many treatments as possible. As bodyworkers, we know that a part of learning is receiving. The more we experience, the more deeply we can give.
As an aromatherapist and folk herbalist, I was instantly drawn to the intoxicating aromas — herbal balms, fragrant oils, steaming poultices filled with lemongrass, kaffir lime, turmeric, and camphor. During my stay, my colleagues and I received a variety of treatments: Luk Pra Kob (herbal poultice massage), Thai oil massage, traditional Thai massage, and other spa rituals. After each session, we were offered a cool, refreshing butterfly pea and lemongrass infusion in a little glass — the perfect tropical touch to end an exquisite treatment.
When I returned home, I knew I wanted to bring this experience with me. Together with our incredible teachers, we created a workshop that captures the heart of the Thai oil massage we received in Thailand — so you too can treat your clients to an exquisite tropical retreat.

Massage in Thailand has been passed down through generations. It’s not just a spa service; it’s traditional healing — the massage of the grandmothers. Every movement, every stretch, every gentle press is infused with intention and care.
One of the core principles of this work is the sabai approach. In Thai, “Sabai Sabai” means ease, well-being, and a relaxed, openhearted attitude toward life. It’s about letting go of tension — in our bodies, our minds, and even our approach to the work — so we can provide holistic care with grace and flow.
Our teachers share their love for this tradition...

“When I go back home to Thailand, one of the first things I look forward to is receiving a Thai oil massage. I love its flow — so relaxing, yet still bringing pain relief. It’s different from traditional Thai massage because it focuses less on points and more on a continuous, soothing rhythm. The beautiful aromas of the oils fill the room, and the coconut and other nourishing oils leave your skin feeling so soft. Now, we’re bringing this beautiful tradition to you, so you can experience it and learn to share it with others.” — Rappewan Kannawat (Gail)

"Walking into the spas in Thailand, I can’t help but breathe in all the aromas and smile. They often use lime peel and salts to scrub your feet before treatments, and you instantly melt! My favorite part is how it involves all the senses and always leaves me feeling energized and more vibrant!"- Susan Good
Whether your goal is to offer clients deep relaxation, pain relief, or a transportive escape to a tropical paradise, this workshop will give you the tools, techniques, and sabai spirit to make it happen.
